Character Name: Yuna
Canon: Final Fantasy X-2
Canon Point: Post Last Mission

Personality:
Yuna comes from a prestigious family, and it shows in subtle ways; she is well-mannered, well-behaved, polite, soft spoken, and her first impression would be that of a Yamato Nadeshiko, or rather, the ideal Japanese woman. Her voice is soothing and rarely (if ever) raised, and she treats everybody with kindness and respect; she addresses peers and those older than her in a respectful manner, and never talks down to children, instead kneeling down to meet them at their level. She's also prone to apologizing for things which aren't her fault, especially in excess.

She was also raised to hide anything which could possibly hurt her image; if she had any troubles or worries, she told herself she had to cover it up with a smile and sacrifice herself for the greater good for everybody's sake. This self-sacrificial streak was tested during her pilgrimage, and shattered, but old habits die hard; more than likely Yuna will regress to her old ways and repeat her old habits in this regard.

For the longest time, Yuna's felt nothing but pressure, having to live up to the image her father fostered because of his great sacrifice, to honor and not bring shame to her family name. Not only that, she put it upon herself to follow in her father's footsteps to bring everybody the Calm. Yuna puts a lot of responsibility on herself and has a bIt of a Messiah Complex, in which she thinks she needs to do everything to make everybody happy, which obviously she can't. And when she fails, she becomes depressed due to the unrealistic expectations she puts on herself.

That's not to say that Yuna doesn't know how to have fun or that all of her smiles are fake, however. She simply doesn't show her true self to very many people, and even now, she has a difficult time knowing who her "true self" is due to the fact that such a heavy burden was lifted off of her shoulders.

Yuna is extremely sensitive as well; it's easy for her to connect with most people because she can identify with them, and she herself is quite sensitive in the sense that she's brought to tears quite easily, even if she tries to hide her emotions. One thing that Yuna definitely has is a great amount of empathy. It's never outright stated, but Summoners have to be able to bond with the fayth on some level and form a connection before Contracting with an Aeon, and Yuna managed to link with each and every fayth in Spira (aside from the mountain that made Mt. Gagazet). Yuna has a strict sense of justice, and does what she truly believes is right; sometimes this leads to moments of black and white, however, and certain inflexibility when things cannot go the way she envisions.

Her words still left unsaid, Yuna's only experienced love once in her life, and it ended tragically. Yuna has a difficult time saying what's on her mind, because she prefers to keep it to herseLf, repeating it over and over again in her thoughts until it makes sense, and even then it may be difficult for her to communicate into words. However, Yuna is not complex or two-faced; she's an honest woman who finds it difficult to be capricious, and she finds joy in the simple things in life, and isn't that difficult to figure out or interact with.

A sense of pride also permeates her actions; she is proud of her heritage, of her father, of his deeds, of her Guardians and what they sacrificed, and the person she loved giving everything up so that she may live. While everything about this makes her carry a sense of responsibility, Yuna wouldn't trade it for anything because she carries her burdens with a sense of dignity and pride.

All in all, Yuna exudes an aura of truth, honesty, valor, sincerity, and love; however, she still has her doubts and heartaches, and chooses to move on forward.

History:
Yuna @ FF Wikia

Her first journey, taken when she was 17, was fraught with peril, adventure, intrigue, drama, romance, heresy, jail time, necrophilia, and several more things. However, through it all, she realized that the local theocratic government was responsible for Sin, and that Summoners along with their Final Aeons were being fed to Sin, which kept it at bay for several years. All this to control the humans of Spira; Yuna's Guardians, now her closest circle of friends, begged her to not go through with the Final Sending, but Yuna's mind was made up; branded as a heretic, she still wished to bring the Calm to the people of Spira, serving everybody.

First time she saved the world. The next time would be personal. Yuna's second journey followed two years after the events in Final Fantasy X, where she joined the Sphere Hunter group the Gullwings. Along with her cousin Rikku as well as a mysterious new friend named Paine. Spurred on by the image of her beloved in an ancient sphere, Yuna uncovers secrets to the Machina War one thousand years prior to her journey, and finds the story of two lovers by the name of Shuyin and Lenne whose love was as inauspicious as her's. In the end, she's able to bring peace between these two unsent souls, as well as come to terms with her own story. And she's ultimately rewarded for it.

Abilities:
FF Wikia's List of FFX-2's Dresspheres

Yuna in FFX-2 is in possession of an object known as a Garment Grid - what it does is house Dresspheres, which allow Yuna to inherit the memories and data embedded into them so that she may wield its abilities. The most prominent (and story-based) example of this is with the Songstress Dressphere, which houses the feelings of the Songstress Lenne's final moments one thousand years prior. With it, Yuna can inherit Lenne's abilities as well as view some of her memories, which played a driving part in her second journey to find Shuyin and relay Lenne's feelings to him.

Basically, it's FFX-2's answer to the Job System present in earlier titles. Depending on certain Dresspheres, Yuna is able to cast white magic, black magic, use sword abilities, or even enemy skills! Basically, if there's a need for it, Yuna's got it.

Yuna's also adept enough of a swimmer in order to hold her breath for at least five minutes, made obvious by the fact that she participates in blitzball.

Strengths:
Yuna is as tough as nails - being conservative, she tends to allow her actions to speak louder than her words. It is her determination that allows her to pummel forward in all things. Even after she was shunned by Yevon and labeled as something of an apostate, she decides that it is not for Yevon that she partakes in her pilgrimage - it is to bring the people of Spira hope.

That is not just it, however. When she finds out that summoning the Final Aeon only brings Spira a false hope, she refuses to go through with it, and instead with her friends finds another way. However, it ends up the same - she is forced to sacrifice the love of her life (and "Uncle" Auron, but meh, who cares?), as well as the Aeons she fostered such strong bonds with. This weighs heavily on her mind to the point when two years later, when Nooj suggests a similar plan to stop Vegagun, Yuna reprimands him and goes into a lengthy speech about how she doesn't want to lose battles in order to win the war.

This shows that Yuna has the capability of admitting when she's wrong, and that while she may come off as meek, she is by no means weak.

She is also fluent in the language of Al Bhed, which is basically a cypher. So she'd be able to basically speak in code with anybody else who's familiar with Al Bhed.

Weaknesses:
Again, Yuna tends to see things in black and white, growing up in a conservative setting - this is further emphasized in the second game, where she feels a bit out of place within the Gullwings, and is uncomfortable choosing between the two major factions attempting to lead Spira into the future: the conservative New Yevon, and the liberal Youth League. Her indecision very well could have lead to a mass civil war across Spira, which she was able to avert thanks to the spirit of Lenne inside of the Songstress Dressphere.

Basically, given her presence in the public eye, Yuna is incredibly guarded and attempts to hide what she truly feels because she knows that the people who look up to her and count on her hang on her every word. This often gets her into sticky situations since she tends to become paralyzed when faced with such weighted decisions.

First Person Sample:
[The doctors were lying. They had to be lying. Yuna couldn't accept any other possible explanation - none of her journey was a dream. But this world... it didn't feel like a dream, either. And her name? Her family? Her heritage? It was all a lie? Never! Breathing heavily, Yuna looked up in the bathroom mirror, in the only room she could let herself freak out like this without anybody seeing her. A determined look plastering itself on her face, she quickly washed it before drying herself off. She had to find answers, and they certainly weren't in here. Toilets were convenient, but she definitely preferred her world regardless.]

...

[Opening the door and entering back into her patient room, it was time to look for clues. Yuna had been lied to before, and she knew that empty look in one's eyes when they told her a bold-faced lie. This world was a lie. She kept telling herself that. And now she had to prove it.]

Third Person Sample:
The golden sun was about to bathe itself in the vast ocean, and Yuna would never get tired of the beauty of the sight. Seated atop of the roof, staring out at the ocean, all she could think of was that one memory... the memory of trying to record a message for all of her Guardians, telling them how much she wanted to thank them for everything they've done for her. It went so well... until she came across the portion where she wanted to tell him what was on her mind.

It was difficult for her to explain in words.

When he was washed up by the beach, he fascinated her. He was from a completely different world which was foreign to her, and brought so many new ideas and attitudes into her life... and he always kept on smiling a sincere smile. Not that everybody else didn't smile, but they all knew the truth of what was going to happen to her. But his smile, it may have been clueless... but it wasn't a smile out of pity. And Yuna appreciated that.

... she really messed up on that recording, she chuckled to herself. The memory brought a small smile to her face. After all, she felt a bit silly stumbling over her words in that recording... and he found it, before she could rerecord it. But even then... at the end of their journey... she couldn't tell him those small three words. Instead, all she could say was 'thank you', something which couldn't even begin to cover everything she wanted to communicate to him.

A tear escaped her eye. She wished she could redo it all over, but even then, it probably wouldn't be possible.

She wanted to enjoy this life and freedom she was given, by his sacrifice. And she was going to do it happily, in his memory.

Even if she was in this strange new world. Her journey couldn't have been a lie. She refused to believe it.
